Homeplace comes from ancestor bell hooks, who asserts the homeplace a place to affirm “our beings, our blackness, our love for one another.”
Tackling both the intimate and external landscapes of our lives, Homeplace Studio is working to design experiences where the joyful renewal, love for each other, and affirmation that the world we dream of is possible.

We are collecting community-based data and stories from neighbors in Brooklyn and developing engaging stories and research-informed principles for creating home in your community and design projects.

We engage in research and practice in the art of walking as self and community reflection and renewal.

We host intimate community events prioritizing connection, joy, and exploration, including quarterly Jazz Nights. Coming soon, we’ll be producing a community-composed jazz record.

Our anchor co-created workshop with the with Harmonie studio, Make People Feel, brings together afrofuturism and principles of self-determination to put community in the role of the designers of their own futures.
